High-Performance Car Insurance Cancellation

Regardless of whether or not your car is high performance, you have a desire to cancel your insurance. The question of doing it right is a question that many who cancel their insurance must ask. If you don’t do it right, or if you just jump into it haphazardly, then you could hurt yourself financially in the long run.

You might be planning to move, or you might be unhappy with your current coverage. No matter why you are choosing to cancel, your decision could have serious repercussions if you do not proceed properly. Make sure this doesn’t happen to you by following proper procedure!

First off, you need to make sure that you give your insurance provider a notice, a written notice at that. Sure, your policy might say that you don’t have to do this, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Make sure you tell them that you are canceling your policy, though you don’t need to give them specifics. Your policy might not expire at the end of the term either, which is definitely something that you will need to watch out for.

If you incorrectly assume that your policy auto-terminates at the end of each term, two things will happen. First of all, your insurer will continue to bill you for the next term’s premium. Secondly, when you don’t give notice; you simply fail to pay. Whether you give notice or not, the bottom line will be the same - your policy gets cancelled. The only difference in this case is, it goes on your credit report as a negative note.

It’s never safe to assume automatic cancellations. While insurance companies, even those specifically catering to your high-performance car insurance needs - may be quick to inform you your policy will automatically be cancelled if you don’t send payment for a new term, they never mention the repercussions of this course of action. Better safe than sorry. Send in that notice of cancellation.

A sudden cancellation will also raise what is known as a red flag when you are trying to get on with another insurance company. They’ll assume you are high risk, and they will charge a much higher premium. Cancellation notices are serious business.

Changing Insurance Carriers

If you are keeping and driving the same vehicle but switching high-performance car insurance providers, make sure your cancellation date coincides with the effective date (start date) of your new policy. You don’t want to be caught in an accident when you’re uninsured, would you? That would just go down in history as the most stupid thing any responsible adult could do.

You might just have to get rid of that high-performance car insurance. You’ll have to have more than one reason, and you’ll have to do it right if you want to avoid ruining your credit. Always inform the provider and save yourself the trouble later on.
